The school cafeteria and after school daycare are on strike, the laundry is piling up, the Christmas shopping and gift wrapping are no where near being finished, and the Christmas cards (that I am sorely disappointed with but am too lazy to send back) are waiting to be addressed!
But hey, it’s all goooood…
It’s FRIDAY, the sun is shining, and thanks to some early morning power yoga and two espressos, I am ready to take on the world!
Before I do all the things, here are some of my favorites from this week that I thought you might enjoy:
ONE : Cookbook Love – If you’ve kept up lately, you know we surprised my family and flew to the USA for Thanksgiving. This was my first Paleo / dairy free / mutated grain free Thanksgiving and I was determined to get to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast without abandoning the eating plan that I follow to treat my MS.
After buying plane tickets, I immediately started researching Thanksgiving recipes that work with my eating plan so that I could fully enjoy my American Turkey Day experience. I’d been eyeing Danielle Walker’s paleo cookbooks for a while, so I ended up ordering Danielle Walker’s Against All Grains Celebrations. Walker’s previous two cookbooks, Against All Grain: Delectable Paleo Recipes to Eat Well & Feel Great and Against All Grain: Meals Made Simple, have been super popular in the Paleo community so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed!
Celebrations is slightly different than your average cookbook in that it gives you a full menu for all of the major holidays from Mother’s Day to Easter to July 4 to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and every thing in between.
Celebrations made it so easy to fulfill my Thanksgiving cravings. I loved having a full menu’s worth of tried and tested Paleo recipes (that are perfect for entertaining) all in one place! After much deliberation, I decided to make the Apple Sausage Stuffing, Smoky Candied Bacon Sweet Potatoes, and Cranberry Sauce – all of which were delicious – but my absolute favorites were the Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon Jam and the Chocolate Pecan Tart.
I can’t wait to test out some more of Walker’s recipes for my son’s birthday and for Christmas!
TWO: Monkeyin’ Around – I’ve always wanted to be able to do pull ups, but – much to my dismay – I have never had the upper body or core strength to do so! Retrospectively, I should’ve seen this coming as a child when I was completely incapable of doing the monkey bars!
Over the past few months my daughter has become obsessed with the monkey bars and she amazes me – forwards, backwards, spinning and changing directions….
