If you were to go to my parents’ home, you’d see a picture of me and two of my sisters in matching denim overalls and red tee shirts, posing by a pond. We had fishing poles, pigtails… the works. It’s the cutesiest little photo you ever did see, but it marked the end of overalls for this gal, or so I thought.
Maybe it’s because I grew up à la compagne and associated overalls with all things rural. Or maybe it’s because oh-so-adorable photo of the six-year-old, overall-clad Casey will forever be engrained in my memory.
For whatever reason, I was pretty confident in saying that I’d never don a pair overalls again until just a few months ago. One day as I was scrolling through Instagram, I saw a picture of one of my favorite fashionista’s wearing overalls. She looked cool and comfy and not at all country.
Hmmm, I thought. I might need to reconsider my overall aversion.
And reconsider I did. As a matter of fact, I reconsider enough to add three pairs of overalls to my wish list: one long pair, one short pair, and a dress pair!
I recently ran across this fun pair of overalls that I just couldn’t say no to. I love how the non-traditional suspender-like straps add a little bit of character to an otherwise basic pair of dungarees.
I most recently paired my overalls with a simple white tee and clean white sneakers for a simple one-and-done look.
To complete the look, I added this perfect little blush-colored faux-suede bag I picked up at Zara.
This is just one basic way to style basic denim overalls, but don’t be afraid to get creative. For example, you can throw them on with an off-the-shoulder white shirt for an added feminine touch or with open-toe booties or heels for a slightly dressier look.
Or, if you’re really ready to embrace the overalls trend, spring for a black or white pair for a modern take on an old-school wardrobe staple!
