Don’t get me wrong: j’adore the summertime, but there’s something comforting about boots, scarves, and sweaters. Even so, I’ll admit to wearing shorts as long as possible this year. I’m convinced that I was the last person in my French city still bearing my legs in September. I had to consciously fight the wave of claustrophobia I felt washing over me as I reached for my skinny jeans and close-toed shoes. Nonetheless, when I finally accepted the fact that Fall was here to stay, one look in my closet was all it took for me to say au revoir summer and bonjour Fall Fashion!
Here’s a peek at what I’m living in this season:
ANKLE BOOTS– I’m a total shoe junky and was thrilled break out my flat, taupe-colored Sam Edelman booties. I’ve only had them for a year, but have literally worn them to death. I walk partout in France, so it’s essential that I have a stylist flat bootie that’s also super comfy. My Sam Edelman flat booties are my go-to shoe!
I found mine at Saks Off Fifth two summers ago at a killer price. Best. Purchase. Ever. Unfortunately for us all, they don’t make the same bootie I have anymore. Trust me, I know! I tried to buy another pair in taupe and a pair in black as soon as I realized that I had struck gold, but it was already too late. Dommage!
Luckily, the Allison bootie by Aldo looks very similar to mine and people seem find them very comfortable. They look like great casual ankle booties for when you want to look put together, but just don’t feel like running around all day in heels.
Another option is the Petty Bootie, Sam Edelman’s bootie from last season. I don’t think you can go wrong with it; I’ve just never been disappointed with a Sam Edelman shoe. I tried them on this summer and they looked great. They also have the Paige, which is just like the Petty but with fringe. When I want to dress my outfit up a notch, I reach for a heeled ankle boot. This season you’ll find me sporting the Lucky Brand ‘Eller’ Bootie (as of this week, they out of stock in this color, but hopefully they’ll restock soon).
I’m also a huge fan of this Franco Sarto Granite Bootie, which is currently on sale at Nordstrom. It’s slightly higher fashion in that it’s very low cut on the ankle. I am seriously considering adding a pair of the Truffle Taupe ones to my shoe collection. I came so close to buying them this summer, but I was trying to be raisonnable. In all transparency, I had already bought five pairs of shoes to bring back to France and I didn’t think I could justify yet another pair. In reality, I could justify it: It’s next to impossible for me to find shoes in France. I’m 5′ 11.5” and wear a size 10 US. Tall women in France are a rarity, as are shoes that fit us. Moral of the story: I should have bought these while I was home. Such a classy shoe that can be dressed up or down!
Here are some other taupe-colored heeled ankle boots that have me drooling: Zada Woven Ankle Bootie by Sole Society (pictured to the right), Jessica Simpson Calvey Leather Ankle Bootie , and the ‘Kiver’ Ankle Boots by H By Hudson.
Clearly, I have a thing for shoes, so let me stay on the topic a little longer. Every girl needs a good pair of black booties in her repertoire. I ordered the BP Trott Bootie in black during the Nordstrom sale this summer and fell in love the minute I slipped them on. I immediately went back and tried to order the Taupe Leather or Chocolate Leather, but they were sold out in my size at the time. I wore this boot walking around Paris recently in the evenings and was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable it was.
RIDING BOOTS – I tend to break out my riding boots when it’s super cold or rainy. Mine are Nine West and are a good five years old. I have worn them so much that I’m either going to have to have them re-heeled or bite the bullet and buy another pair. Here are some of the options I’m considering:
CAPES – This season I’m loving the cape trend. As you may recall, I picked up this gorgeous black and white Hinge Stripe Cape from Nordstrom during their sale this summer and love it. I’m in the market for another cape or two. I love the fall colors of this one from Nordstrom. It’s so my style!
LONG BLACK COAT – My black trench coat lived a long, hard life. I wore it until my husband finally told me it was time to retire it and purchase a new one.
Pardon? You actually want me to go shopping? VENDU!
I looked around for another black trench, but then while shopping in Paris with my best friend I had a coup de coeur for this Hand Made Coat from Zara. It’s classy, stylish, and super comfy! It’s a more non-structured look than a trench, but it’s right up my alley.
This T Tahari Marla Wrap Coat is similar in style to mine and is nothing short of magnifique. I can’t stop looking at it. Is it normal to swoon over a coat?
MILITARY JACKET Every girl needs a military jacket in her closet. I throw this one from H&M (last season) on all of the time. There are so many cute military jackets out there, including this Topshop ‘Elsa’ Four Pocket Utility Jacket, this Stretch Cotton Military Jacket from Express, this Press Two-Pocket Stretch Cotton Military Jacket, this Free People Rumpled Army Jacket and these Lyocell and Cargo Jackets from H&M.
OLIVE PARKA: We had a few unseasonably cold days this month and I was so thankful for my olive-colored parka that I picked up from Zara last fall. It’s such a practical, stylish coat and I get tons of wear out of it.
LEATHER JACKET: I hunted for a black leather jacket last year, but never quite found one that I liked and that fit me well. I have abnormally long arms, so finding a decent sleeve length is not a task for the faint hearted. Plus, I really wanted a jacket that had black or gold hardware that wasn’t too flashy. While in Paris, Lindsay sported her mom’s black leather jacket and seeing how great it looked reignited my passionate hunt for the perfect jacket. This past weekend I finally came across not one jacket that corresponded to what I was looking for, but deux!
I ended up buying this one:
I’ve already worn mine several times and am so thrilled to have finally added this staple to my wardrobe. I just hope the weather will stay mild enough for me to get some more wear out of it before the froid sets in.
Okay, je m’ arrête là. I don’t want to overwhelm you all at once, so we’ll save the rest for another day! Be on the lookout for round 2 of Fall Fashion. I’m thinking my favorite scarves, sweaters, jeans, and more…
A la prochaine,
