I was born and raised in North Carolina – home of sweet tea, barbecue, yes ma’am and ya’ll. Coming from a large, tight knit family, the idea of wandering out of the Tar Heel state was not only frowned up, but it was considered outright blasphemy. Life, however, has a way of surprising us.
My path started pointing towards France long before I realized what was happening. It all began when I signed up for a French 1 class as a freshman in high school. Thanks to a passionate and gifted teacher, I fell head over heels for the French language, for the culture, and of course, for the food!
When college rolled around, I didn’t know exactly what I would end up getting a degree in, but I knew one thing for sure: I was going to study abroad in France. As a mere sophomore, I signed up to study at the Sorbonne in Paris. While on a weekend trip to visit the chateaux of the Loire Valley only a month after arriving in France, I met a charming, intelligent français. As they say, the rest is history.
Now, over a decade and two adorable Franco-American children later, France has become my home away from home, my second chez moi.
France has taught me so many things, but perhaps the most important is an all-encompassing, never waning love for food. I love to eat so much that when people ask my husband about my interests and hobbies, his response is always the same: Food. She loves to eat. I would be offended, if it weren’t so undeniably true…
My love of eating goes hand in hand with my love of cooking. I practically live in the kitchen. To put it simply, cooking/baking is my hobby, my therapy, and my own personal art form. I gravitate towards healthy, wholesome foods and love experimenting with recipes to make them healthier for my family.
In addition to being a self-declared foodie, I’ve also become increasingly interested in fashion since I moved to France nearly a decade ago. Oh, and I may or may not have a shoe fetish…
French Bliss Me is my space to write about all of the things that bring me bliss and to connect with other likeminded individuals. Follow along for a glimpse into my Franco-American life!
