So, if you’ve been following along this summer, you know that I’ve already bragged on my favorite sunscreen and lip balm. Today, as part of my Five on Friday / Friday Favorites / Oh Hey! Friday series, I thought I’d delve a little deeper into my summer beauty arsenal and share 6 awesome beauty products that I’m reaching for this summer!
I’ve always hated using regular sunscreen on my face. Call me paranoid, but unless something is specifically made for facial skincare, I’m afraid it will cause me to break out. Plus, I don’t like the whole Casper-ish look that white sunscreens sometimes result in or the greasy residue that many sunscreens leave.
I recently discovered La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios 50 Mineral Tinted Light Sunscreen Fluid and fell in love. It’s remarkably lightweight and goes on so smoothly. I wear it with no make up or under my normal foundation, depending on my plans for the day.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the beauty industry throws you a curve ball and introduces some crazy new product that leaves you sitting there picking your jaw up off the ground. That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered Bioderma’s sunscreen water.
Sunscreen water?! Saaaay what now? Is that a thing?
Well, ladies, I’m here to tell you that it is definitely is a thing! This sunscreen spray is revolutionary and mind-blowing. I mean, how on earth do you make sunscreen that literally feels like water?! David Durand, general manager at NAOS Group, which owns Bioderma, explained, “Chemical UV filters have lipophylic and hydrophilic properties – they’re oil- and water-soluble…We increased the hydrophilic aspect of the chemical filters in order to optimize the solubilization of the filters in the water.”
Not only does it have UVA and UVB filters, but the Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin SPF 30 water also contains humectants and emollients that help hydrate and soften the skin. Oh, and it’s formulated without fragrance, parabens, alcohol or propellants!
While this is not a beach day sunscreen due to the fact that it’s not water or perspiration resistant, it’s the perfect city sunscreen. You can use Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin SPF 30 spray to fix your makeup right after application in the morning, then re-mist your face later in the day to refresh your UV protection.
So basically this is an ultra-mega-super light sunscreen / make-up fixing spray that goes on like a fine water mist with absolutely no oiliness. And, best of all, it allows you to reapply your sunscreen without ruining your makeup!
Oh, and did I mention it’s small enough to throw in your purse?! Win.
The only downside to this product is that it’s currently only available in France (if you’re in Europe, this site will deliver it to you). Fingers crossed that this product will make its’ way to American markets sooner rather than later!
THREE: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
Nothing ruins a cute summer outfit faster than dry, scaly legs! At the beginning of the summer I was on a hunt for a good moisturizing lotion and my mom recommended the CeraVe Moisturizerizing Cream. I’d always heard good things about the CeraVe brand from my dermatologist, so I decided to test out their cream.
I can honestly say that from the first time I used this cream, I was convinced! I apply it to my legs and all over my body (excluding my face) every morning before I get dressed. This quick absorbing, non-greasy, odorless, and non-irritating cream somehow manages to keep my typically dry skin looking and feeling healthy all day long.
On the off chance that you’re curious as to how CeraVe Moisurizing Cream does its job so well, let me explain. Cerva uses a patented Multivescicular Emulsion (MVE) formulation that works to restore and maintain the skin’s natural protective function by trapping key ingredients like ceramides, humectants, and emolliants within multi-layered vesicles. The vesicles are slowly released throughout the day, allowing aforementioned ingredients to penetrate deep into the skin to moisturize and nourish it.
FOUR: Rimmel Natural Bronzer
Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and splurge on an awesome beauty product. Other times, with a little hunting or a stroke of good luck, you find a dupe product that’s just as good as the pricier one. That’s what happened for me with this super inexpensive, but fabulous bronzing powder. For years I bought name brand bronzers, but one day I spotted this Rimmel Natural Bronzer and it quickly became my bronzer of choice. When it comes to bronzing powders, this is the jackpot!
This is by far my favorite self-tanning lotion for subtle and natural-looking results. I’ve tried a number of self-tanning products over the years, and this one is still my favorite. While it doesn’t deliver drastic results like Fake Bake’s Airbrush Instant Self-Tanning Spray, it also doesn’t leave a mess in your shower (can’t say the same for the Fake Bake) and doesn’t leave you trying to scrub away streaks. As a matter of fact, this may very well be the only product I’ve applied time and time again without any streaking.
In case you were wondering, I use the light to medium shade (also available in medium to tan). I apply the self-tanner all over my body (except my face – I use this on my face) after showering about once every two days. As with any self-tanner, make sure to wash your hands well immediately after application!
Because of their versatility, I always tend to gravitate towards coral toned nail polishes in the summer. When I spotted Live, Love, Carnaval by OPI, I knew I had to add it to my collection. If I had to pick just one nail color for this summer, this gorgeous, creamy coral shade would definitely be it!
*I recommend applying two coats of this polish to achieve a flawless finish.
Okay, so now that I’ve given you a glimpse into my own personal summer beauty arsenal, I’m curious to know what your current favorite beauty products are!
